Hi all,
Well, you'll remember yesterday when I booted the computer, the time had rolled back to 1997? I called the computer guy we had out here the last time, and he said either the battery was loose, or it may be a problem with the mother board. All I know about the mother is bits and pieces I read from pc world magazine, and smart computing magazine. Well, he said he'd try and come tomorrow as soon as he got a chance. I called freedom scientific, told them my authorization woes again, and told them I wanted to get a refund and cancel my one remaining sma, because of my time and date problem, and the fact that no one could get the right settings to stay, I couldn't use jaws 6. Well, since they were tech support, theygave me the number for sales, which I had already been told by the recording. Well I got a bit of a run around from the woman I talked to, she gave me all kinds of stuff starting with, how are you going to use your computer without jaws? I told her I held on to the previous version just in case i had trouble with the new one.

then she tried to talk me into buying a dongle, and I told her no, we didn't know anything about these things, and we already spent too much getting people to set the date and it hadn't worked. She then said all you do is hook the dongle in the usb port. I told her I didn't have a usb port, my computer was 7 years old. Then she told me maybe it wasn't y2k compliannt, that was probably the reason the time and date wouldn't work. I told her it turned over to 2000 just fine, and just to see how far it went, I went as high as it would go, and it's good up to 2099. I told her again I wanted a refund and she said she'd do some research on it. After a long time, she told me the problem wasn't jaws, but with people changing the battery and resetting the date, it was changing my lock out code. I told her this problem started before we even had anyone trying to reset the date. That was when she tried to talk me in to buying a dongle. When I told her, nevertheless, whether it was or wasn't jaws, I still couldn't use it so there was no point in having it. She asked, "do you want to speak to my supervisor? I told her alright. I told him about the situation, and he said he'd send me a quella floppy disk authorization. I asked him, with this jaws program? He said he was going to send me another program cd along with the quella authorization disk, and when he sent it, I would just have to uninstall the jaws 6 I have on the computer, then reinstall it from the cd he was going to send me, and use the quella disk. I asked him if the quella authorization would work with jaws6, and he said, it works with 5 doesn't it? I told him yes it did, so he told me it would work.
I said, but you have that new authorization scheme. He said, yes we do, but in your case, I'll send you the quella authorization disk.
Well I had a strange thing happen when I turned on the computer tonight. I was all prepared to press f1 to continue, but it started right off, and when I pressed insertf12 to check the time and date, it had rolled forward to the correct date again. At first, mom asked if I wanted to call the man back and tell him it reset its self right again, I told her I didn't trust it to stay, because it rolled back before, it was likely to roll back again.
All in all, it's been a strange and frustrating day and week. I'm not calling fs back and telling them to cancel the cd and quella authorization, after all, if it rolls back, I can fall back on that. It was really something the way that sales girl was trying to catch me up, and trying to get something over on me, and make it out to be something else, just to get out of doing anything. Some of those people in sales make us users sound so stupid.
